Dimensions are a powerful tool used to categorize and analyse financial data. They act as markers that can be assigned to entries, such as transactions, to group them by various characteristics like departments, projects, regions, or product. However, a limitation within D365 BC is that dimensions must be manually created and linked to the master data record. vBulk addresses this by introducing automatic creation and attachment of dimensions to the master record, enabling users to analyse financial reports based on dimensions derived from key tables.
The Set-up Bulk Dimensions Assisted Setup guide provides a set of step-by-step setup elements to get you to configure the functionality.
1. Using the magnifying glass or Alt+Q, search for Assisted Setup and click on the link
2. Click on the magnifying glass on the top left of the page and type Dimension and click on Set up Bulk Dimensions.
3. Click Next to navigate to the next screen.
4. vBulk Dimension Manager requires a mapping to be created between a table that holds master data and Dimension Code for which the values are to be created, for example Customer Table with Customer Dimension.
5. Click into the cell under column Table No. and select Customer Table.
6. Click into the cell under Dimension Code and select Customer Dimension. Pre-requisite is for the specific Dimension Code to pre-exist for mapping.
7. Next Step is to select the Code/No. Field and Name/Description Field resulting in creating a mapping for Dimension Value Code and Dimension Value Name. Caption columns will be automatically populated.
8. Value Posting to remain Blank. Setting Value Posting to blank enables a specific usage scenario. This allows master records, such as FA cards or Projects, to be created as templates. These templates can then be used to create new records using the Copy FA or Copy Project Function. Specifying “Same Code” or “Code Mandatory” for Value Posting can cause conflicts in certain situations. This is particularly true when:
9. Value Type to remain Standard
10. Click on Enabled
11. Ensure there is tick on Assign Default Dimension to auto assign the newly created Dimension Value Code to the master record.
12. Set Suppress Project Dimension Dialog to True (recommended if businesses use the Projects module) and click Next
13. Initial Setup is complete for one entity.
14. To modify the setup or to add more entities such as Vendors, Fixed Assets, Projects, Items to the Dimension Setup, in the search bar, type Bulk Dimension and click on the link.
15. To re-create Dimension Values, Users should use the Recreate button which only recreates the Dimension Value for the line selected (one record at a time).
V-Bulk’s emailing functionality requires following key setups to be in place:
These setups are standard and native to D365 BC implementation and comprehensively covered by Microsoft Learn.

Confirmation notification
Progressing on the setup of the automatic Dimension creation and assignment for the Customer table, D365 BC will create a new Dimension Value Code for the Customer Dimension and assign it to the newly created Customer record.
Recreate Dimension Values can be used to refresh the Dimension Value codes in scenarios where there is change of name for the Customer record.
If a master record is deleted, the Dimension Value code will also be deleted, but only if it hasn’t been used in a Dimension Set Entry. If the code is in use, D365 Business Central will mark it as Blocked instead.
