A large greenfield oil and gas expansion project was keen to leverage next generation information sharing and audio-visual communications systems to build a platform for collaboration as part of their remote operations strategy. Velrada developed an internal Immersion Centre that could be used to showcase next generation technologies and previously conceptual working practices to senior project stakeholders to drive innovation in the project and to identify technologies for further extensive piloting.
Velrada’s ability to apply unique subject matter expertise in collaboration and workplace productivity strategy combined with the implementation of integrated operations centres, led to increased confidence in the plan for the implementation phase of the project.
Given the five year timescales for design and construction of a future state remote operation centre, our client was keen to trial and implement new collaboration technologies and build a tried and tested platform that would support the business going forward ready for adoption at go-live and not provide a single ‘big-bang’ change on day one of operations.
Velrada established an iterative design methodology based on live trailing, testing and mock ups of collaboration principles, technology systems, devices and processes to enable this approach. By running iterative prototypes in a real life Immersion Centre, feedback was able to be gathered on key design decisions in real time and captured as part of the early design process.
Key to establishing and running this Immersion Centre was the identification of the key technology trends and device changes that scheduled over the coming years, understanding how the base technology platform would develop and being able to adapt to and incorporate new tools. This was accounted for in the production of a 20 year future technology roadmap which identified key trends in the industry and a set of actions to capitalise on this. By understanding how the Immersion Centre would grow along with the project and comparing this to the established roadmap, appropriate sets of tools and devices were identified for proof of concept and trialling throughout the project lifecycle, creating a test bed for new ways of working
